IBPS exam related questions and answers

We got hundreds of reactions for our last article on IBPS Clericial Cadre exam and IBPS PO exam. IBPS probationary officer exam is now over, and that for clerical cadre is imminent. It appears that still many people are a bit jumbled about the purpose of IBPS exam, eligibility, filling online application form, selection procedure, syllabus, etc. Since we are not in a position to answer each and everyone, here we are listing the general doubts in a question and answer form. We Hope you’ll find it useful.

What is IBPS exam: A common bank entrance test to spawn a group of people interested in or qualified for management clerical cadre posts in various banks in India. A few banks part of IBA will use the score from IBPS exam to fill job openings in their firms. The exam will be conducted two times in every year, and the score is valid is for one year.

Is there any minimum or cut off mark: IBPS exam is just the first part of the selection process. Bank will define criteria; a particular level of qualifications and IBPS score of their choice- then there will be an interview, group discussion, etc. before you get a job.

How to apply: IBPS applications are only accepted online. You can apply for IBPS clerk exam on this page, and IBPS PO exam here (registration ended).

Exam fees: The exam fees can be paid online using an internet banking account/credit card/debit card or offline at the local branch of a bank participating in the IBPS selection process. The exam fee for PO exam is RS 450 and that for the clerical cadre is 350 in case of general section, and RS 50 for reserved.

What are the prerequisites for filling online application: NEFT/CBS challan (if you’ve paid the fees offline), a valid Email ID, scanned copy of photo and signature in specified dimensions, details of qualifications, personal and professional information.

I’m going to pay the fees offline- what is the procedure: Check with your bank for the payment mode supported by them. Five banks taking part in IBPS exam support or Core Banking Solution, and others support NEFT. Download the appropriate challan from IBPS website, go to your bank, pay fees and get it filled and signed by the authorities. You have to produce CBS/NEFT receipt at the exam center- the details like NEFT UTR no, transaction number, bank address, etc. given in the slip is required to fill the online application form.

How to prepare the photo and signature: IBPS site may throw some error if the uploaded photo/signature is not in the correct format as specified. The photo should have a resolution around 200 x 230 pixels, and the maximum allowed size is 50KB whereas the signature dimensions are stipulated as 140 x 60 pixels and size 10-20KB. Software like Adobe Photoshop or any other online tool (example: picresize.com) can be to adjust the size of the scanned image. Save the image in KJPEG form to reduce its size.

I submitted wrong data in IBPS application, and now I want to edit it- is that possible: Yes, you can modify details in your application form until the last date of application or possibly 2-3 days afterwards using your IBPS registration number and password.

How to download the IPBS call letter: It will be made available in official website ibps.in, a few days after the final date of application.

I didn’t get SMS or email after registration: If the application has been accepted you will get an instant SMS and Email notification from IBPS. It contains your portal number and password that are required to make any modification to your online application, and to download the caller letter. So if you’re unable to get the details in few hours and if your bank account hasn’t got debited try again n later. If the problem persists, contact IBPS helpdesk at 18603450112.
